Today, people text much more often than they call themselves. WhatsApp is one of the most famous messaging programs used to communicate, born for smartphones. But today, you can also download and install it on a PC. It is truly a complete software that allows you to send text and voice messages and make calls or video calls.
Until a few years ago, we could only use WhatsApp on the phone. But today, its programmers have also created an official version for Windows and Mac computers. There is no official version yet for those with Linux, but if you’re using it in this user group, you can always use WhatsApp Web, which runs directly in the browser and is independent of the operating system.
This tutorial will show how you can download and install WhatsApp on a PC. Before leaving, we would like to point out that the mentioned method only uses official clients and is therefore safe, but above all easy. In addition, with the new version, you can use Whatsapp without your smartphone. Arm yourself with some desire, and you will find that you can message all your contacts, even from your computer, in a few moments.
WhatsApp on Windows
You can type text directly from the official program if you have a Windows computer. You can find it in the Microsoft Store; the installation is easy and instant. However, if you cannot access the store or you prefer to install it manually, the procedure isn’t complicated at all. Installing WhatsApp on a PC is done in 6 simple steps:
- Connect to the official website (whatsapp.com) to download the program
- Click the ‘Download for Windows’ button, and you will download a ‘WhatsAppSetup.exe’ file to your computer.
- After the download is complete, double-click the file to open it and install it on your computer.
- After the installation is complete, launch the program and open WhatsApp on your smartphone.
- Go to WhatsApp Web / Desktop from the three dots in the top right
- With the phone camera, read the QR code on the PC screen.
The software will start on its and sync all your messages in minutes. The procedure takes a few minutes; as you can see, it’s straightforward. The program interface is slightly different from that on your smartphone. Frankly, everything is much more comfortable with the larger screen. When you use WhatsApp on your computer, you have the most recent chats on the left, and when you select one, you can see all the messages in the right window. Switching from one chat to the next is very convenient and fast.
All you need to know is that the program is only compatible with versions after Windows 8; if you have an older version, use the Web version, which we describe a little further below.
Using WhatsApp on Mac
Despite the messaging app found on every Apple phone and tablet, WhatsApp is one of the most used social media, even on iPhones. If you also prefer this application and want to install it on your Mac, know that it is possible and easy. There’re two ways to get WhatsApp on MacOS computers, both of which are simple.
The first, of course, is to go to the App Store and install the program. It takes seconds and requires no technical knowledge, research, or anything. This is precisely what we recommend to you, as it is the easiest, fastest and safest. However, if you still want to do the installation manually, you can always download the client from the official WhatsApp website and install it on the Mac. Even in this case, there’re practically no difficulties. In summary, you have to follow 4 simple steps to install WhatsApp on Mac:
- Download and install WhatsApp from the official website or AppStore
- Open the program and wait for it to load on the screen with the QR code.
- Open WhatsApp on your mobile and go to settings in WhatsApp Web / Desktop

WhatsApp Web in Browser
You can use WhatsApp directly from browsers without downloading or installing any programs. This is a beneficial solution for Linux users and when using a PC that isn’t ours. For example, WhatsApp Web is a godsend if we’re on a friend’s computer, in one of the schools, or cafe. On these computers, even if you can not only install but also install additional programs, you run the risk of someone breaking in and reading your chats. Just follow 3 simple steps to access it:
- Visit the official website web.whatsapp.com
- Open the app on your phone and go to WhatsApp Web / Desktop
- Aim the QR code with the camera and confirm if necessary
Within seconds you will have access to all your contacts and messages directly from the browser. If the computer isn’t yours, don’t forget to uncheck the stay connected box below the QR code.
